UV Wand Sanitizer Plus Giveaway!

Back in 2008 I learned about these ultra-violet wands that you can carry with you when you travel, and they can kill the germs. I remember I had been traveling frequently for work and heard about a bed bug outbreak in some higher end New York City hotels. Thankfully I did not end up in NYC but it still struck me and freaked me out about hotel rooms.

I finally got one! Verilux has some amazing products, including this UV hand sanitizing wand. It is the perfect time to get one because it is right in the midst of cold and flu season!

How does it work?
The UV wand uses the UV-C light technology to eradicate viruses, bacteria and certain molds and other allergens. You use it on surfaces at home or while you are traveling. It fits great in a diaper bag if you have young children, or in your luggage while you are away.

Some things you can use it on include:
  • Electronics such as keyboards, cell phones, MP3 players, tablets, etc.
  • Toys
  • Public areas like kiosks, ATM machines, restrooms
  • Hotel rooms or public transportation

Sanitizes Without Chemicals or Irritants
Sanitize bathroom and hotel surfaces, plane and train headrests, steering wheels or shopping cart handles quickly and easily without chemical residue or harsh liquids or odors. You can use it on anything you may touch -- EXCEPT food, people or animals!

Quick & Easy to Use
Unlike sprays and wipes, the wand is instantaneous. All you have to do is remove any debris from the surface and slowly pass the wand directly over the area to sanitize — Thats it! The simple, one-button operation and compact size make the UV wand the perfect travel companion.

Lab Tested & Proven
Tested by United States independent third party laboratories, this device is proven to eliminate up to 99% of H1N1 and MRSA in 1 second!

Disclaimer: This device kills up to 99.9% of germs, viruses and other micro-organisms on solid, non-porous surfaces. Sanitizing times and effectiveness for porous surfaces may vary.

Now you can win one!!! We are excited to be giving one of these sanitizing wands away to a lucky reader!

Parasite Cleanse Review

So many people -- some estimate at least 85% of the population -- have parasites. These parasites rob our bodies of nutrients and cause all sorts of symptoms that can be passed off as other illnesses or diseases. GROSS, right? Sure, but it is a reality and needs to be discussed.

Symptoms of parasites (you can have one or more):
  • You have unexplained constipation, diarrhea, gas, or other symptoms of IBS
  • You recently traveled internationally
  • You have a history of food poisoning and your digestive system has not been the same since
  • You have trouble falling asleep, or you wake up multiple times during the night.
  • You get skin irritations or unexplained rashes, hives, rosacea or eczema
  • You grind your teeth in your sleep (bruxism)
  • You have pain or aching in your muscles or joints
  • You experience fatigue, exhaustion, depression, or frequent feelings of apathy
  • You never feel satisfied or full after your meals
  • You've been diagnosed with iron-deficiency anemia
  • You have pets
Most common types of parasites:
  • Tapeworm (nausea, dizziness, bowel issues)
  • Hookworm (causes anemia and bowel issues)
  • Roundworm (causes wheezing / coughing, rashes, fevers, fatigue)
  • Flatworm/Fluke (causes diarrhea, aching, fever, fatigue)
  • Pinworm (scratching of anus!)
  • Giardia (rotten egg burps, diarrhea, nausea)

So I tried a 10-day parasite cleanse, and here is my experience:

This parasite cleanse has all the ingredients you want.... the three main ones that everyone knows about are: black walnut hull, cloves and wormwood. But it has many beyond that including garlic, and Pau D'Arco.

It was easy to do. All I have to do is take these pills three times a day. Except.... that I kept forgetting to take it 3x a day. On average I took it 2x a day. I do not know how effective that was, and I know I need to do better.

I usually make it a habit to do a parasite cleanse twice per year. In the past I have done diatomaceous earth (this is what I feed to my pets twice a year as well) and humaworm's cleanse. I also have done Hulda Clark's parasite cleanse, and have even tried using a zapper.

Since I have lived and traveled internationally, and I have pets, I know how important it is to be on top of doing a parasite cleanse.

Multi-vitamin Review - Vitamins and Minerals in the Right Combinations at the Right Time

The Balanced Trio multi-vitamins are a very unique concept that consists of three formulas specifically created for taking in the morning, in the midday and in the evening. They contain all the essential vitamins and minerals, along with OMEGA 3s, Co-Q10, additional antioxidants and plant-based compounds and micronutrients.

Here are the three reasons why you shouldn't put all the nutrients together in one pill and call it a day:

So you would receive 3 bottles with each order.
  1. A morning formula that delivers antioxidants and vitamins that help your body start the day.
  2. A midday formula that delivers nutrients that support your body during the day, to be taken with lunch.
  3. Evening formula includes minerals, B-vitamins and herbs that help your body to relax in the evening and promote restful sleep.
I LOVE this concept. However, while most everything about it is fine, it appears that at least some of the vitamins are synthetic. For example, it has cyanocobalamin as the form of B-12. This is a synthetic version that up to 40% of the population cannot convert to its active form due to methylation issues or MTHFR gene mutations. Same with folic acid. That is the synthetic form of B-9, and especially pregnant women who have the MTHFR gene mutation are prone to miscarriage... what they really need is methylfolate, the active form of the vitamin (please note that those without these genetic issues should have no problems with folic acid, but so many millions of people WITH these issues don't even know they have these issues, so it is tricky).

The company does use P-5-P which is the active form (and most useable) of B-6.

I do like EVERYTHING about this formula except the folic acid and cyanocobalamin. I like that it is non-gmo, I like that it is made in the USA, and the minerals are chelated. I like that it has molybdenum and that it has ConcenTrace (one of my favorite trace mineral supplements).

If they didn't use synthetic vitamins, then this would probably be the #1 vitamin supplement in the world... :)

UPDATE: They have upgraded their supplement to contain folate and methylcobalamin, so this is fantastic. I think that they really have a great thing going here! I am impressed.

Alternative Cancer Treatments

Please note that if you have cancer you should be under the supervision of a doctor and these are in no way, shape or form "cures" for cancer and none of these methods that I know of are approved by the FDA.

I am listing them in no particular order, and linking to a random website that I Googled, for easy access to find more information about that protocol.

If I were to be diagnosed with cancer, I would hear my doctor's advice and weigh pros and cons after getting a second opinion. I would also do some of the protocols below depending on the type of cancer. The one thing we all should agree on is to remove toxins and chemicals from our lives! And detox our bodies (with my detox foot pads).

I do believe there is a time and a place for allopathic and naturopathic medicine to go hand in hand, and I wish that both groups would learn to work together for the greater good.

Do your own due diligence in researching these protocols listed below in depth.

Enough of my blabbing, here is a list of alternative or complementary cancer treatments put together by myself and a group of wonderful women from Facebook!

Is Your Skin Looking 20 Years Younger Than Your Age?

just shy of 40 years old

My husband took this picture this morning (I haven't even showered today or ran a brush through my hair yet). But I asked him to take a picture because my skin just feels SO amazing and I wanted to post something about my skin care regimen. The cool thing is I am not selling you any of the products and they are inexpensive, (and last months if not years) and no toxins!! (I will link to them to show you where you can purchase them, but you can get them wherever!)

Last night, after washing my face with Miracle Soap, like I always do, I made up a mask of French green clay. You can buy it at Amazon, Mountain Rose Herbs, or wherever. I bought it at Mountain Rose Herbs and it lasts a LONG time! My 8 oz package has lasted me well over 3 years (it is almost gone now!).

I took about 2 teaspoonfuls of the clay powder in the palm of my hand and then I added water until it was about toothpaste consistency. Then I added it onto my skin -- including my neck. And let it dry.

Bentonite clay masks should not dry, but the French green clay masks should - you will feel your skin tighten as it dries, and become itchy!! During the drying process you will look like you have camouflage paint on your face and your dog may bark at you. It may take anywhere from 5 minutes to 15 minutes.

Then take a warm wet washcloth and remove the mask.

After you remove the mask, your skin will feel the cleanest it has ever felt. Then, I put on the homemade tallow night cream that make. (Click here for the Tallow Cream Recipe)

You can be generous with this after a mask. Let your skin soak up the refreshing benefits of tallow -- the closest thing in nature to your skins own natural sebum!

I do use it under my eyes and around the tops of my eyes.

This morning I woke up and washed my face gently with a dab of Miracle II soap and used Miracle II lotion (the only "lotion" I use that is not homemade). I take a few dabs of it and put it on my face. That is all I do, and then I am ready for my mascara and eyeliner that I haphazardly put on this morning... (I use Tarte Cosmetics -- not 100% organic but in an effort to be the least toxin free and highest quality, this is my choice for the time being).

Yes, you CAN have beautiful skin without toxins, and without paying with your first born child!

Homemade Clay Body Wraps and Weight Loss Belt

One thing that I have tried in the past was Luca Lean body wraps. It is a clay-based "mud" that you put on your body, and then you wrap yourself in plastic wrap. I remember it worked pretty good!

And because over the years I have gotten to know so many health benefits of bentonite clay and french green clay, I kept remembering about these clay wraps that I did.

So, I tried making them myself, as I have a ton of ingredients that I think would work.

Here is what I did:

1. Heated up some oil and water (1:1 ratio). I actually used organic Castor oil for this time, although in the past I have used avocado oil, sweet almond oil, or even olive oil.

2. Add in bentonite clay until you get the right consistency. Some bentonite clays are a finer powder, others are not as fine. In this instance a finer clay powder will work better.

Note: I am not telling you the amounts to use, you can figure that out yourself, but a good starting point would be up to 1 cup each water and oil if you want to do your whole body with a thick paste... 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup would also work.

3. Add essential oils to the mix. Some of the ones I chose are sandalwood, eucalyptus, grapefruit, and lemon. I am not a certified aromatherapist and I do not use essential oils lightly. However, I will warn you that if you are sensitive, then be careful. I actually put drops in until it smells "good" to me, which I know doesn't help you one bit! Just add in whatever you feel is right... 10 drops of each, 15 drops of each? maybe 50 drops of essential oil total combined at the MOST....

 4. Then the fun part begins. I recommend you being prepared with a robe, the saran wrap (and if you are like me and can't EVER use saran wrap easily, so it becomes a huge mess, a pair of old scissors would be handy, as they will get dirty don't use your fancy new sewing scissors!)

Slather it on your body -- I do my waist, buns and thighs. I put as much as I can on.

5. Start wrapping yourself! I start at one thigh, and wrap a few times and then go around my buns and then go up my waist, and then down the other thigh. I do as tight as I can around the thighs and waist, but in the transition areas (so I can sit down easily if I want to) I do a little looser but maybe a couple extra wraps. Overall I use about 1/3 to 1/2 of the roll of saran wrap.

6. The latest thing that I got was a weight loss belt that is made of stretchable neoprene, and I wrap that around my waist to add heat to it. The heat helps me sweat more and gives a boost to the clay wrap we just made.

Then, I just put a robe on, relax in my recliner and read a book.

I stay in this setup for about an hour. If I am comfortable (meaning I don't have to pee) I may stay in for a little longer.

Then I just cut it all off with those old scissors, straight down the middle, and climb into the shower. I have a dry brush in the shower that I use to get the residue off my body.

I do not measure myself. But I LOOK thinner almost immediately and I like that. My skin tone seems firmer and I can only imagine the toxins that the bentonite clay has removed.

I am not overweight, but because I have hip issues I have NOT worked out in a LONG time because even walking a mile will cause me pain for days. So, I am not as toned as I would like to be and that depresses me. This regiment really helps me!

I recommend doing it monthly, and even using the weight loss belt throughout the week in addition to the monthly clay wrap!

Silicon Baking Mitt Plus 15% OFF!

These oven mitts / silicone gloves take time to psyche yourself up to test them out! I can't get it through my head that these will protect my hands from the burning roasting pan in the oven.

But they do! And they don't get grimy and gross like my other oven mitts do. These are waterproof and of course, heat resistant up to 425 degrees F.

They are easy to grip so you won't have a hot dish sliding from your hands, which is a huge positive as I have had a dish fall and break as I was carrying it from the oven (oops). Thankfully I was wearing long pants and shoes and stepped out of the way in time. I am fast like a ninja when I want to be.

The orange color is not my favorite, I would have preferred a gorgeous turquoise! But you won't lose them, even when you use them outside with your BBQ grill in the middle of winter.

They are BPA free and the FDA has approved the use of silicone for this purpose. You can even put them in the dishwasher to get them clean!

Vitamin D3 and Vitamin K2

Vitamin D, which is really a hormone instead of a vitamin, is essential to our well being and the key to a healthy immune system.

It is also essential to bone health, along with vitamin K2. And K2 is one thing I want to tell you about.

I used to take between 5,000 IUs and 10,000 IUs of vitamin D3 per day. And my blood tests always showed me on the lower end of the range. It was frustrating. I remember one March in Minnesota I knew it was just the tail end of a long, cold, dreary winter, but I was supplementing and it should have been enough!

Then I found out about vitamin K2. There is something about K2 that acts as a catalyst and helps your body utilize and absorb D3 properly.  It also may have something to do with whether you have a leaky gut (where you can't absorb nutrients well) or genetic mutations that also don't allow your body to assimilate the necessary nutrients. But whatever the reason for poor absorption, the K2 was a miracle for me.

Once I started taking it as a supplement (the main sources of it are fermented natto, a soy product, and then grassfed meat and dairy. It is NOT the common K1 that we have heard about for years where we get plenty of when we eat our leafy greens), there was a HUGE difference in my D levels.

Again, I took the test the following March, after another long winter. I still supplemented with D, the same as always, but this time I had been taking vitamin K2 for a few months as well. My numbers were off the charts! I believe the range is between 35 and 80 dg/mL (whatever the measurement units are). Mine always hovered between 38 and 45, even with supplement! This time my levels were 96!!! Ack! Too high. So I continued the K2 but stopped taking as much D3, and now my levels are perfect around 70.

So, what does this mean? Well, for me, it means being able to utilize vitamin D effectively and not waste it. And so I ordered some Dalvia Vitamin D3 drops because they are easy to take and you can dose yourself appropriately.

My recommendation is to take 5 drops throughout the day. And, if you are sick, double or triple that dosage for a few days.

And, I do recommend taking vitamin K2 a few times per week. I take it about 4 times per week and that seems to be sufficient.

Please note that when you get vitamin D from the sun, you do not need to supplement with K2. It is only when you take D3 internally that you should look into adding the K2. Well, actually, K2 is extremely essential for good health as well, so even if you appropriately sunbathe (no burning!) you should still supplement with K2 because it offers so many benefits! Heart health and bone health.

Ingredients of Dalvia D3 drops:
Vitamin D3, MCT Oil (Medium Chain Triglycerides in the form of coconut or palm kernel oil) No salt, sugar, starch, yeast, wheat, gluten, soy, milk, egg, shellfish or preservatives. Bottle and all components are BPA, Phthalate and Latex Free.

I like the D3 drops and like that there are no additives. Great ingredients and the ability to dose yourself how you need to.

BakeItFun Silicone Baking Mat

I received a BakeItFun baking mat and have some comments about it. First of all, I don't bake much at all, even though I think it is fun and my husband loves anything that I bake. Baking is time consuming and it is much easier to throw ingredients into a crockpot and then forget about it until it is time to eat.

However, I love my husband so I do like to bake occasionally. :)

I was worried at first about baking with silicone. I use silicone molds for my gummy candies and chocolates, but I fill the molds and put them in the freezer or refrigerator, and never heat them up. Even though it says they are good to 450 degrees, I just haven't done it yet.

These baking mats are good to 450 degrees, and the FDA says it is safe. But, it is not solid silicone, and that is what I don't like about it. It is made of fiberglass with silicone on the outside. Now, I agree, this makes it nice to have in the oven as it gives it even heating. But once my husband decides to cut brownies while they are on the silicone baking mat, and cuts into it, then the whole mat is ruined. You don't want fiberglass anywhere near your food with the possibility of contaminating it.

The mat is flexible and can fold, to make it easy fit in a drawer or small space.

After researching a bit more I saw over and over again that silicone is believed to have low toxicity and thermal stability, but you may want to use it only up to about 428 degrees F.

There are some other positives about it:

1. It is easy to clean
2. It is non-stick
3. Eco-friendly, allowing you to replace disposables like parchment paper.

However, it doesn't biodegrade, so while it is still safer than non-stick cookware treated with PFOA, if you do cut this mat and expose the fiberglass, you will end up having to throw it in a landfill.

Thyroid, Adrenals and Neurotransmitters -- What Comes First: The Chicken or the Egg?

I was just thinking about my thyroid issues, and how they suck. But it is a chain reaction of health issues that I am dealing with that stem from genetic mutations.

I still don't understand it all, and look forward to moving back to the US next week(Yippee!) so that I can meet with a doctor who understands epigenetics and can deal with my issues!

So, to sum it up --- I have thyroid issues that are hard to treat. I have ultimately been hypothyroid for so many years, and then after being mis-diagnosed for over 10 years I finally was diagnosed! Seriously -- if a patient comes in to your clinic and has ALL the signs of hypothyroidism, and you (the doctor) take the TSH test and say "you don't have thyroid issues" and recommends an anti-depressant -- there is something wrong with the medical community!!!! I am NOT depressed. Just because I come into the doctor's office and complain about various health ailments and how bad I feel does NOT make me "depressed". That is the SOLE PURPOSE of going to the doctor's office, right? To tell them of your symptoms?

Anyway, I finally got a doctor who did the correct tests: reverse T3, free T3, T4, free T4, thyroid antibodies, iron, Vitamin D, etc etc. You can find a good list of tests that you need, minimum, here.

And boy was I super hypothyroid!!

But, he also diagnosed me with adrenal fatigue -- and so such is my introduction to the life of adrenal issues, and what the symptoms are. These symptoms are ones that I recognized over 20 years ago in myself... so my adrenal issues started well before my hypothyroid symptoms started, and we believe they were a contributing factor to the thyroid issues.

But here's the kicker: I can't seem to heal my adrenals... why? Because of my genetic mutations that I just found out about this past year! I have the COMT/MAO genetic mutation, which makes my body produce adrenaline as if I am in fight or flight mode 24/7! Because of the imbalance of neurotransmitters in my body as a result of these mutations, it is imperative that I fix and balance THESE first. Click here to read more about genetic anxiety.

Then, once that is under control, I can address my adrenal issue, and then I am pretty sure my thyroid will take care of itself.

I am doing everything to support my thyroid and adrenals naturally -- through diet (which includes avoiding soy, gluten, fluoride, bromide, chlorine), and eating the right supportive nutritive foods, and taking the adaptogenic herbs as supplements. I am supporting my endocrine system with selenium, iodine and tons of Himalayan pink salt. I am not using any chemicals in my beauty products or cleaning products.

So, once I get the neurotransmitter tests done and figure out how to balance them out in my body and decrease the adrenaline production, I think I will be golden!!!

Zit Popper

I admit it. One of my fetishes is popping blackheads and pimples. Looking back I am grateful that I did not have acne issues as a teenager, because I would have ended up with a scarred face due to picking and picking and picking....

But, I do get the occasional blackhead and blemish. And I still have that HUGE desire to pop pimples. So I got this:

I must not be the only one that enjoys popping pimples because there are games for the Android and for the iPhone that are super popular, that allow you to digitally pop pimples!

Nonetheless, there is a better way to get rid of those pesky pimples. It is called the blackhead and blemish remover tool! You can purchase it here for only about $9.

The instructions tell you that for whiteheads, you are supposed to wait until the whitehead matures and breaks open the skin. Then you can use the flat side to gently roll out the whitehead.

For blackheads, press down the thin loop side directly over blackhead to gently remove.

I have to say that it does work but it works a lot better when I can use it on my husband. .
